SWEET BRIAR — Sweet Briar lacrosse faced visiting Lynchburg College Friday, on senior night for the Vixens. The Hornets took the game 14-7 to wrap up the Vixens’ conference season record at 2-6.
Lynchburg scored nine times in the first half to jump out to a 9-3 lead at the break. Sweet Briar fought back in the second 30 with three unanswered goals to begin the half. Ellie Donahue ’08 (Richmond, VA/Trinity Episcopal) put one on the board off a Megan Behrle ’09 (Manassas, VA/Stonewall Jackson) pass three minutes into the half. Sarah Ross Stewart ’08 (Lexington, VA/Virginia Episcopal) added another goal, followed by an unassisted goal from senior Julie Sellers (Virginia Beach, VA/Norfolk Academy) to bring Sweet Briar within three at 9-6. After a Hornet goal, Stewart put in the Vixens’ final goal with her fourth of the game. Lynchburg countered with three goals in the last two minutes of play to take the 14-7 win.
Caitlin Green led Lynchburg offensively with four goals. Vixen goalie Emily Fitzpatrick ’07 (Virginia Beach, VA/Norfolk Academy) stopped 18 Hornet shots in the game.
Sweet Briar’s final regular season match up is Saturday, April 22, at the College of Notre Dame (MD).
