SWEET BRIAR — Softball returned to the win column Tuesday, defeating visiting Rappahannock Community College 9-1 and 15-7.
The Vixens took game two in comeback fashion, scoring 10 runs in the bottom of the fourth to erase a 7-5 deficit. Brittney Berry ’09 (Tappahannock, VA/Essex) led off the fourth with a triple and scored on Meagan Chenault’s ’07 (Amherst, VA/Amherst County) double. Krystal Ellis ’08 (Rustburg, VA/Rustburg) then hit a home run to right center to drive in Chenault.
After a pitching change, Sweet Briar got singles from Meagan Bell ’09 (Amherst, VA/Amherst County) and Beth Anderson ’08 (Richmond, VA/Mills Godwin), followed by three walks and a single.
With the bases full of Vixens, Chenault singled to drive in two. Ellis followed with a RBI single and Bell hit a sacrifice fly to center to end the scoring for Sweet Briar.
Chenault finished game two 4-for-4 with four runs scored and five RBIs.
Sweet Briar also used a big inning in game one to capture the victory. The Vixens sent 11 to the plate in the fifth inning as seven runs went on the board.
Anderson pitched five innings on the mound in game one for the win. Berry and Ellis split time in game two. Berry was a perfect 5-for-5 on the day with six runs scored and two RBIs.
Sweet Briar returns to conference action Friday, taking on Lynchburg College at home. The first pitch is at 3 p.m.
