The James Quartet will perform at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 8 in Memorial Chapel at Sweet Briar College. Admission is free.
Pianist Nick Ross The group recently underwent a metamorphosis, evolving from a traditional string quartet to a piano quartet, said Nick Ross, pianist and SBC assistant professor of music. The switch will enable the quartet to present a “varied repertoire … utilizing the different ensemble possibilities,” he said.
The upcoming performance will include Brahms’ “Piano Quartet in G minor, op. 25.”
The James Quartet consists of Ross on piano; SBC faculty members Jana Ross and Joe Nigro on violin and viola; and University of Tennessee faculty Wes Baldwin on cello.
Nick Ross has an upcoming CD, “John Powell: Early Piano Works” which will be released March 1 by Centaur Records, Inc.
