SWEET BRIAR – Lacrosse picked up its second win in as many days Saturday, defeating Ferrum College 20-3 in non-conference action. The win improves the Vixens’ season mark to 5-4.
As with Friday’s game, Sweet Briar mounted a substantial lead in the first half, scoring 14 times. Sophomore Sarah Ross Stewart (Lexington, VA/Virginia Episcopal) led the attack with four goals and three assists.
The Vixens won 16 of 25 draw controls in the game and were able to keep the ball on the Panthers’ side of the field most of the 60 minutes. All but seven goals were assisted in the win as seven different players found the net. Stewart finished with five goals and three assists. Senior Julie Sellers (Virginia Beach, VA/Norfolk Academy) also scored five goals and picked up four assists in the game.
Sophomore Stephanie Perih scored all three Ferrum goals. Her first came on a free-position shot in the first half. Perih traveled down field and made the breakaway shot for her second and third goals.
Sweet Briar’s next contest is this Friday at home against non-conference Christopher Newport University at 4 p.m.
