Well-known sports journalist Christine Brennan will make a stop-over between the Winter Olympics and the Master’s golf tournament to speak at Sweet Briar College at 8 p.m. on Sunday, April 9, in Memorial Chapel.
Brennan, a USA TODAY columnist, television sports analyst and author of the best-sellers “Inside Edge” and “Edge of Glory,” will appear as part of Sweet Briar’s National Student-Athlete Day celebration. The first woman reporter to cover the Washington Redskins, Brennan’s speech is aptly titled “There’s a Woman in the Locker Room.”
“Christine Brennan is at the forefront of sports journalism, and it will be terrific for Sweet Briar students to hear from someone who has excelled in a traditionally male-dominated field,” Jennifer Crispen, SBC field hockey coach and associate professor of physical education, said.
A leading voice on women’s sports and sports-related issues, Brennan has covered every Olympics since 1984 and appears regularly on National Public Radio’s “Morning Edition” as well as ESPN Radio and WMAL radio in Washington, D.C. She has appeared on numerous television news shows including ESPN’s “Sports Center,” “Nightline,” “Good Morning America,” “World News Tonight” and NBC’s “Today.”
The event open to the public and admission is free. For more information call 381-6338 or E-mail
