ASHLAND — Randolph-Macon scored with four seconds remaining Saturday to defeat Sweet Briar 9-8 in lacrosse. The loss drops the Vixens’ conference record to 1-2.
First-year Megan Behrle (Manassas, VA/Stonewall Jackson) tied the game at 8-8 with just under four minutes to play. Behrle’s goal capped a three-goal run for Sweet Briar, which brought the Vixens back from a 5-8 deficit at the 10 minute mark. Bethany Bressan ’08 (Charlottesville, VA/St. Anne’s Belfield) started the comeback; connecting on a Sarah Ross Stewart ’08 (Lexington, VA/Virginia Episcopal) pass at 9:24. Julie Sellers ’06 (Virginia Beach, VA/Norfolk Academy) followed with an unassisted goal.
Bressan and Sellers finished with three goals apiece. Goalie Emily Fitzpatrick ’07 (Virginia Beach, VA/Norfolk Academy) picked up 17 saves on 28 shots faced.
The Vixens return home Tuesday to face Roanoke College at 4:30 p.m.
