SWEET BRIAR – The first pitch at the new Sweet Briar softball field was thrown Wednesday, as Sweet Briar softball faced Randolph-Macon College. Several firsts were recorded in the home opener, despite Randolph-Macon sweeping the doubleheader 14-3 and 15-3.
The Yellow Jackets’ Brooke Snyder entered the record books with the field’s first hit in the Macon half of the first inning. Sweet Briar answered with entries of its own, as junior Meagan Chenault (Amherst, VA/Amherst) scored the first run. Krystal Ellis ’08 (Rustburg, VA/Rustburg) picked up the first RBI, knocking in Chenault with a one-out double. Ellis followed in the fifth inning with the first home run in Sweet Briar history. She finished with two homeruns and four RBI on the day. Chenault and Ellis went a combined six for eleven and scored all six Vixen runs.
Randolph-Macon’s Carrie Barchick went five for eight with five runs scored and five RBI to lead the Yellow Jackets. She led off Game Two with homeruns in each of her first two at bats.
The Vixens remain at home Saturday as Southern Virginia comes to Sweet Briar at 12:30 p.m.
