ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Sweet Briar lacrosse scored in the last six seconds, March 14, to defeat the Eckerd College men’s club lacrosse team 10-6 under the lights at the Eckerd College turf field.
The Vixens, in Florida on a training trip, arranged the game with Eckerd after their originally scheduled game with a travel team from Japan was cancelled due to scheduling problems.
The Tritons were ranked #12 in the March 9th United States Lacrosse MDIA-B Division poll.
Sweet Briar found itself down 5-1 at one point, but began winning draw controls in the second half to close the gap. Sarah Ross Stewart (Lexington, VA/Virginia Episcopal) and Julie Sellers (Virginia Beach, VA/Norfolk Academy) connected well in the midfield and the Vixens’ defense finished strong. First-year Megan Behrle (Manassas, VA/Stonewall Jackson) led Sweet Briar in scoring.
The Vixens return home March 23 to face Averett University at 4:30 p.m.
