The Sweet Briar Intercollegiate Horse Show Association Team’s season began with a win in the opening meet of the season at the University of Maryland. In the final show of the season at the College of William and Mary on Sunday, March 19, the team built on the lead that it had maintained through most of the season to hold off Goucher College. SBC finished regional competition with a seven-point lead to earn the title of Zone IV, Region I regular-season champions.
Sweet Briar will host the Zone IV finals on April 9 and will vie with the Region II champion team, Bridgewater College, and the Region III champion team, Virginia Intermont College, to determine which two teams will represent Zone IV at the National Finals in the Collegiate Cup competition.
Sweet Briar’s Jodie Weber ’06 finished the season as the high-point rider for Region I, qualifying her to represent the region in the National Finals of the Cacchione Cup in early May. Alison Sims ’09 had a strong showing as a first-year rider for the IHSA team, completing the season as the reserve high-point rider behind Weber.
