VIRGINIA BEACH — Sweet Briar softball played its first Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) contest in school history Sunday, suffering a doubleheader loss at Virginia Wesleyan by scores of 10-2 and 13-3. Game One pitcher Krystal Ellis (Rustburg, VA/Rustburg) shutout the Marlins through three innings, snagging two line drives and assisting three other outs. Ellis struck out three in the game. Junior Meagan Chenault (Amherst, VA/Amherst County) drove in both Vixen runs, with a two-out double in the third inning. In Game Two, first-year Meagan Bell (Amherst, VA/Amherst County) went 1-2, knocking in two of Sweet Briar’s three runs. Game two starter, Brittney Berry (Tappahannock, VA/Essex) reached base four of six plate appearances. Ellis finished with two putouts and five assists on the day.
Sweet Briar opens play at the new Sweet Briar softball field Wednesday at 2 p.m. against Randolph-Macon College.
