SWEET BRIAR – Sweet Briar lacrosse picked up its second win in as many days Thursday, defeating non-conference College Misericordia 15-3. The win evens the Vixens’ overall record at 2-2.
Sweet Briar dominated play, scoring seven times in the first half and eight in the second frame. Sophomore Bethany Bressan (Charlottesville, VA/St. Anne’s Belfield) put the Vixens on the board with a free position shot in the eighth minute. Ellie Donahue ’08 (Richmond, VA/Trinity Episcopal) followed less than 20 seconds later with her first of the game. Sarah Ross Stewart ’08 (Lexington, VA/Virginia Episcopal) and Meredith Newman ’09 (Charlottesville, VA/Tandem) each added two in the first half to bring the game to 7-1 at break. Bressan, Donahue, Stewart and Newman led Sweet Briar in offense with three goals each.
Goalie Emily Fitzpatrick ’07 (Virginia Beach, VA/Norfolk Academy) picked up eight saves on 13 shots between the pipes for Sweet Briar.
The Vixens travel to Florida next week for spring break. The team takes on the University of South Florida Sunday at 1 p.m.
