An exhibition of photography by Josephine Sacabo will open with a reception from 5 to 6 p.m. Thursday, March 23 in Sweet Briar College’s Babcock Gallery.
Two portfolios of Sacabo’s black and white silver gelatin prints, “Nocturnes” and “Susana San Juan,” will be on display through May 28. SBC assistant professor of studio art, Paige Critcher will discuss Sacabo’s work at the reception, which is free and open to the public.
According to her
Web site, Sacabo works in a subjective, introspective style, taking inspiration from the poetry of Baudelaire, Pedro Salinas, Juan Rulfo and others. She makes her own prints, using processes such as multiple negatives, various tonings, oil washes, solarizations and flashing.
The Babcock Gallery is in the Babcock Fine Arts Center, adjacent to the gymnasium at Sweet Briar College. The exhibit is free to the public. Hours are 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday through Friday with evening hours until 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. The gallery is closed on Saturdays. For more information, e-mail
