Sweet Briar graduate Susan Scanlan ’69 will deliver a talk on “The Once and Future Feminist” at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, March 23 in the College’s Library Browsing Room. The event is free and open to the public.
Scanlan is the chair of the National Council of Women’s Organizations and president of Women’s Research and Education Institute. She is a professional advocate for women.
While she was at Sweet Briar she was Phi Beta Kappa and president of the Chung Mungs. She was features editor of the Sweet Briar News and won a national competition for the best feature writer in an American college. She was picked by TIME magazine to head “Choice ’68” at Sweet Briar — a project that ran mock presidential elections — and she was on the committee that overturned the antiquated social rules that governed student behavior off campus. She also won a National Defense Education Act Fellowship to pursue her doctorate in modern languages at Tulane.
This event will be a celebration of Womens History Month. Refreshments will be provided.
