Katherine (Katie) Hearn was inducted January 28, 2006 into the Baltimore Chapter, US Lacrosse Hall of Fame. She was presented for induction by her coach, Sweet Briar Associate Professor Jennifer Crispen, who described Hearn as "Straight to the goal. No quit, ever."
As a player at Sweet Briar from 1982-1985, Hearn set national records, including #2 for goals scored in a single game (11 vs Mary Washington), #5 for points in single game (13 vs Mary Washington), #6 for career goals (216), and #6 for career points (282). In her senior year, the Vixens were undefeated in ODAC regular season play. She was a first team All-American in 1984 and 1985, and ODAC Player of the Year in both seasons. Hearn played in the North/South Senior All-Star Game in 1985. Her service to lacrosse continued after graduation. A long-time competitor in Baltimore Lacrosse Leagues, Hearn coached for the Lutherville-Timonium and Townsontowne Recreational Leagues from 1988-1995. She served on the board of the Greater Baltimore Chapter for a number of years.
After leaving Sweet Briar, Hearn earned a law degree and is Director of Leasing for Streuver, Eccles, and Rouse, a 30-year old real estate development and construction company headquartered in Baltimore. She manages the commercial leasing of their entire portfolio, including projects in Boston, MA, Providence, RI, Wilmington, DE, Baltimore, MD, Durham, NC, and Nashville, TN.
Of her Sweet Briar experience, Hearns says, "The opportunity to be on a team -whether a seemingly individual sport like riding, or an obvious team sport like lacrosse-was invaluable to me. Everything I do in my job is as a member of a larger team, and SBC gave me the opportunity to participate on teams early in life. Competing, and winning, is critical to anyone who lives in today's world."
Twenty years later, the lacrosse team still gathers annually for the alumnae game, continuing close relationships developed at the College.
Hearn is Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Friends School in Baltimore, and serves on the steering committee for Sweet Briar Friends of Athletics.
