Sweet Briar senior Jenn Wiley (Williamsburg, VA/Jamestown) has been named the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) field hockey Player of the Year, voted on by the coaches. In addition to the honor, Wiley earned first-team all-ODAC recognition for the fourth straight year.
Jenn Wiley Wiley stopped a conference-leading 263 saves this season, giving her 200-plus saves in each of her four season in goal. In 2005, she became the conference and national Division III career saves leader with 1042.
“Jenn Wiley is the finest goalkeeper I have ever coached and is among the top athletes I’ve been privileged to work with,” said coach Jennifer Crispen. “The most significant number she has posted is her career save percentage of .815. To defend 1042 chances with that rate of success is phenomenal.”
Wiley stopped 80 percent of opponents’ shots in 2005 as the Vixens’ held opponents to a .143 shooting percentage on 427 shots taken. She had four 20-plus save performances, including a season-best 25 against Washington and Lee in the opening round of the ODAC tournament.
Julie Drake Fellow senior, Julie Drake (San Jose, CA/Willow Glen) joined Wiley on the all-ODAC team. Drake picked up second-team honors after leading Sweet Briar with nine goals.
She was two-for-two in penalty stroke opportunities and scored three game-winning goals for the Vixens this season.
