SWEET BRIAR, VA – Sweet Briar swimming made it two wins in a row Sunday, defeating the College of Notre Dame-Maryland 129.5 to 126.5. Four different Vixens were three-event winners as Sweet Briar took 10 of 14 events to pull out the win.
The relay team of Jennifer Milby ’08 (Mechanicsville, VA/Lee-Davis), Kelly Cuddihy ’09 (Williamsburg, VA/Lafayette), Sarah Hall ’09 (Chester, VA/Thomas Dale) and Kate Lydin ’09 (Mercer Island, WA/Mercer Island) once again started the meet with a win in the 200 M. medley relay (2:21.67). Each went on to win two additional events. Milby took the 200 M. freestyle (2:33.08) and the 200 M. backstroke (2:51.20). Cuddihy swept the breaststroke events with times of 1:25.91 (100 M.) and 3:07.17 (200 M.). Hall won the 100 M. backstroke (1:20.73) and the 100 M. butterfly (1:22.74). Both the 50 M. (33.69) and 100 M. (1:13.27) freestyle events went to Lydin.
The Gators took three of the final four events to pull within three points of Sweet Briar. Senior Christina Libbon led the College of Notre Dame with three wins, wining the 400 M. freestyle (5:24.44), the 200 M. individual medley (2:47.34), and 200 M. freestyle relay (2:12.30).
“In my three years at Sweet Briar, we have had great meets with the College of Notre Dame and this one was obviously no exception. Both teams raced well and we were fortunate to pull this one out,” said coach Jason Gallaher after the win.
Sweet Briar opens conference competition Wednesday when they travel to Washington and Lee University to take on W&L and Randolph-Macon Woman’s College at 7 p.m.
