SWEET BRIAR, VA – Visiting Sewanee scored four times in the second half Sunday to defeat Sweet Briar 4-1 in field hockey.
After a scoreless first, Sewanee scored back-to-back goals within a minute of one another to pull ahead 2-0 with 17 minutes remaining. Sewanee then added a third at 64:33. Sweet Briar pulled within one in the 67th minute on a goal from first-year Rebecca Olander (Richmond, VA/Trinity Episcopal), but 3-1 was as close as the Vixens could get. The Tigers put one more on the board in the last minute for the 4-1 victory.
The Vixens stopped 18 first-half shots from Sewanee and 10 penalty corners to hold the Tigers scoreless in the first half. Sophomore Bev Kansteiner led Sewanee, picking up a goal and assist in the game.
"As a team, we moved the ball better but we still had difficulty finishing," commented coach Jennifer Crispen.
Sweet Briar plays a home make-up game this Tuesday, taking on Randolph-Macon Woman’s College at 4:30.
