VIRGINIA BEACH, VA – Sweet Briar fell to nationally ranked Virginia Wesleyan by a score of 6-0 Friday night on a rain soaked field.
The Sweet Briar defense held the Marlins, ranked No. 8 in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America and adidas poll, to two goals in the first half before surrendering four in the second 45. First-year keeper Kristen Johnson played strong in net for the Vixens despite the wet conditions.
"We lost to a good soccer playing side tonight and it was a good measure for our young team," commented Head Coach Shaw.
Sweet Briar continues play against the top teams in the conference. The team travels to Lexington on Tuesday to face Washington and Lee.
Overall: 4-8-1, ODAC: 1-6-1
