LYNCHBURG, VA – Sweet Briar tennis lost its first match of the season 6-3 on Friday to host Randolph-Macon Woman’s College. The match originally scheduled to be a home contest for R-MWC was played at the Sports Racket because of the weather.
The Vixens posted a win at No. 3 doubles and first-years Shannon Schalestock (Casanova, VA/Highland School) and Maeve Tibbetts (East Boothbay, ME/Boothbay) both picked up wins in singles matches. Sweet Briar lost four matches in tiebreakers.
“Individually we played some good matches, but we did not play well as a team,” said coach Kelly Morrison after the loss. “This loss will make us stronger in the spring.”
Today’s match with R-MWC is the last competition for Sweet Briar this fall. They resume play with a full season of matches this spring.
