SWEET BRIAR, VA β With less than 8 minutes remaining in the first overtime period, senior Julie Drake (San Jose, CA/Willow Glen) carried the ball down field and found the back of the cage to give Sweet Briar the 2-1 overtime victory against Wilson College. The homecoming win is the first home win of the season for Sweet Briar and improves their record to 2-4.
Senior Michelle Badger (Plymouth, MA/Plymouth South) put Sweet Briar on the board in the first, scoring off a pass from first-year Kelly Sault (Rockville, MD/Richard Montgomery). The 1-0 lead stayed until Rachel Cline tied the game with 17 minutes left in the second half. Neither team scored as regulation time ended, forcing overtime play. Each team got off two shots in the overtime period before Drake ended the game with 7:12 remaining.
βAn overtime win is always tough, but it feels good to come out on top. Julie Drake had an beautiful shot for the win,β said coach Jennifer Crispen after the victory.
Sweet Briar hits the road again Tuesday, traveling to Lynchburg to face the Hornets at 4:30 p.m.
