SWEET BRIAR, VA – The Vixens scored 12 goals on Sunday to get Sweet Briar back in the win column on Homecoming Weekend. Sweet Briar picked up the shutout against non-conference Salem College to up their overall record to 3-5-1.
Sweet Briar maintained control of the ball most of the game and put six on the board in each half. First-years Bethany Magee (Prince George, VA/Prince George) and Kostayne Link (Roanoke, VA/Patrick Henry) put in Sweet Briar’s first two goals off crosses in the 3rd and 5th minute. In the 12th minute, Whitney Shaffer (Norkfolk, VA/Maury) bent the ball in off a corner kick for the Vixens’ fifth goal. Anna Tarnoff '09 (Fairfield, IA/M.S.A.E.) and Carlina Muglia '07(Amherst, VA/Amherst) each scored their first goals of the season in the second half.
Despite missing time for an injury, Magee led Sweet Briar’s offensive attack with four goals scored. Shaffer and Link each picked up hat tricks.
Sweet Briar travels to Roanoke on Wednesday to face Hollins University.
