SWEET BRIAR, VA – Emory & Henry scored four times Saturday to defeat Sweet Briar 4-1 on homecoming weekend. With the loss Sweet Briar falls to 0-3-1 in the conference; Emory & Henry evens its conference record at 1-1.
In the 10th minute, Erin Coyne ’08 (Rockville, VA/Patrick Henry) carried the ball into Emory & Henry’s territory to win a corner kick for Sweet Briar. The Wasps cleared the corner kick, but Whitney Shaffer ’08 (Norfolk, VA/Maury) played the ball back in to Michelle Leslie ’08 (Seneca, SC/Seneca) who connected to put the Vixens on the board.
Vixen keeper Kristen Johnson stopped several one-on-one challenges from Emory & Henry. Johnson finished with 12 saves. Freshman Stephanie Jones scored her second goal of the game with 18 seconds remaining for the 4-1 victory for Emory & Henry. Colleen Johnson added a goal and an assist.
Sweet Briar is back in action tomorrow, taking on Salem College at noon.
