SWEET BRIAR, VA – Roanoke College got two goals from Kristen McCoy to defeat Sweet Briar 3-0 in conference play, Tuesday. With the loss, Sweet Briar falls to 2-4-1 overall.
Goalkeeper Kristen Johnson (Federal Way, WA/Decatur) was tested early with a penalty shot 10 minutes into the game. Johnson dove to her right to knock the ball away from the goal and preserve the shutout for the Vixens.
McCoy ended that shutout in the 27th minute and then put the Maroons up 2-0 on a pass from Vicky Mahoney before the end of the half. Roanoke added a third goal in the second half for the win.
Johnson finished the game with 15 saves, moving her season total to 67.
Sweet Briar plays at home over the weekend for homecoming. The Vixens face Emory & Henry Saturday at 4 p.m. and take on Salem College Sunday at noon.
