SWEET BRIAR, VA – With seconds left in the second overtime, Sweet Briar made a charge towards the goal, but were unable to find the net as the game ended in a scoreless tie with Randolph-Macon Woman’s College. The tie brings Sweet Briar’s record to 2-3-1 on the season.
The Wildcats matched Sweet Briar shot for shot through 90 minutes on Saturday. First-year keeper Kristen Johnson (Federal Way, WA/Decatur) kept R-MWC off the board, including stopping a one-on-one shot from junior Alex Aguirre towards the end of the first half. Johnson finished the game with 10 saves.
Fighting through exhaustion, both teams created scoring opportunities in the overtime periods, but neither could put in the winning goal. First-year Bethany Magee (Prince George, VA/Prince George) battled to lead the Vixens with five shots in the game. Wildcats keeper Emily Karnes picked up five saves.
The Vixens are home again Tuesday, taking on Roanoke College at 4:30 p.m.
