Some of the region’s best musicians will come together on stage for a one-night performance at Sweet Briar College on Friday, Sept. 23.

Jonathan GreenThe Blue Ridge Chamber Orchestra’s 32 members will travel from Harrisonburg, Lynchburg, Staunton, Roanoke, Charlottesville, and as far away as Greensboro and Winston-Salem, N.C., to perform at SBC’s Babcock Fine Arts Center.
The ensemble is the creation of Jonathan Green, dean of Sweet Briar and professor of music. Green recruited top-notch artists from city orchestras and university faculties to perform with the chamber orchestra. He also serves as the group’s conductor.
“The day after we did this [concert] the first time, there were requests for a repeat performance,” Green said. “This is our third year and while the members of the group vary from year to year, each time we’ve been able to assemble just the right mix. They never disappoint.”
Nick RossThe ensemble will perform Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 4 with pianist Nicholas Ross, SBC assistant professor of music, as soloist. The concerto is one of Beethoven’s most challenging piano works, Green said.
Also on the program is Beethoven’s Coriolan Overture and the premiere of Green’s own Symphony No. 7, which he composed specifically for this performance.
The concert starts at 8 p.m. in Babcock’s Murchison Lane Auditorium. Admission is free and open to the public. Reservations are not required. For more information, please call (434) 381-6120.
