BRIDGEWATER, VA – Senior Julie Drake’s (San Jose, CA/Willow Glen) penalty stroke goal with minutes remaining, Wednesday, erased Bridgewater’s 5-0 shutout. The Eagles won the game 5-1 to drop Sweet Briar’s overall record to 1-2 on the young season.

Down 2-0 at half, Sweet Briar matched Bridgewater shot for shot in the second half but failed to connect until Drake’s penalty stroke with two minutes to play. Senior keeper Jenn Wiley (Williamsburg, VA/Jamestown) added 16 saves to her season total.

“We made a formation change in the game and saw much more offensive opportunities,” said coach Jennifer Crispen. “The formation is still in the development stages but we are continuing to work on it.”

Sweet Briar returns home Sunday for their first home game of the season as they take on Virginia Wesleyan College at 1 p.m.
