ROANOKE, VA – Several Vixens advanced to the final rounds of the Virginia Women’s College Championship on Saturday. Tournament play continues tomorrow at Hollins University.
In Flight B singles, senior Haley Graham (Virginia Beach, VA/Ocean Lake) defeated Sasha Petrova of Randolph-Macon Woman’s College 6-2, 6-2. She went on to defeat Sylvia Neiser of Mary Baldwin to advance to the first-place match on Sunday. In Flight A singles, sophomore Caroline Bryd (Virginia Beach, VA/Norfolk Academy) went 1-1 in flight play. She will face Jenna Nacht of R-MWC tomorrow for third place.
Two doubles teams also remain alive in flight play. Bryd and teammate Riana Rich (Virginia Beach, VA/Norfolk Academy) defeated the team of Ellen Barnes and Sasha Petrova (R-MWC) 8-3. Freshmen Shannon Schalestock (Casanova, VA/Highland School) and Maeve Tibbets (East Boothbay, ME/Boothbay) won their match 8-0. Both teams continue play tomorrow.
