LYNCHBURG, VA – Whitney Shaffer ’08 (Norfolk, VA/Maury) and Bethany Magee ‘09(Prince George, VA/Prince George) each scored twice as Sweet Briar defeated Mary Baldwin 4-1 Sunday. With the win, the Vixens finished 1-1 in the Randolph-Macon Woman’s College Soccer Classic and improved their overall record to 2-1.
First-year goalkeeper Kristen Johnson (Federal Way, WA/Decatur) was named All-Tournament Goalie at the end of play. Johnson made 18 saves in the tournament. Defenders Carlina Muglia ’07 (Amherst, VA/Amherst) and Anna Tarnoff ’09 (Fairfield, IA/M.S.A.E.) were named to the all-tournament team. They were joined by midfielder Shaffer.
“Overall this was a satisfying weekend,” said coach Paul Shaw. “We are looking forward to this next week and getting ready for Ferrum.”
Sweet Briar travels to Ferrum College Sept. 10 to take on the Panthers.
