The Sweet Briar College Spring Choir Concert on Thursday, April 28 has a unique twist this year. The Concert Choir and Chamber Choir show will highlight seven pieces of music composed by Jonathan Green, dean of the College, in honor of Dominique Leveau, SBC professor of French and modern languages, and Allen Huszti, SBC professor of music. The 7:30 p.m. show in Memorial Chapel is free and open to the public.
Leveau is retiring in 2006 after a leave of absence. The music is based on poems by Verlaine, Lahor, and Grandmougin, that Leveau passed along to Green.
"I wanted to honor [Dominique] as a colleague and friend," Green said of the unusual approach to the annual concert repertoire. "I took French from Dominique, and he has kindly shared many lovely poems with me. This was a way for me to provide some new music for my students and to share my interpretation of some my favorite French poems."
