The office of the president of Sweet Briar College has announced faculty promotions approved by the Board of Directors during its last two meetings. The changes in status are effective July 1, 2005.
The following promotions were approved in February:
Robert Alexander, associate professor of environmental studies, receives tenure. John Beck, associate professor of chemistry, receives tenure. Cathy Gutierrez, assistant professor of religion, receives tenure and promotion to associate professor. Katherine Chavigny, assistant professor of history, receives tenure and promotion to associate professor.
The following were approved in April:
Jill Granger, associate professor of chemistry and Robert Granger, associate professor of chemistry, are promoted to full professors. Also being promoted to associate professor are assistant professor Rebecca Massie-Lane, director of faculty galleries and museums, and Loretta Wittman, assistant professor in theater, dance and communication.
George H. Lenz and Diane Moran, whose retirements were effective in December 2004, and Lee Piepho, who retires effective July 1, have been recommended for emeritus status. The board will consider the recommendations during its fall 2005 meeting.
