Sweet Briar tennis sits in sixth place after two complete days of tennis at the ODAC Tennis Championships held at Hollins University. On Saturday, Laura Denson (Houston, TX/Episcopal) defeated Annie Diemer of Virginia Wesleyan to advance to the fifth-place match in the No. 4 singles flight. Julia Geyer (Dallas, TX/Highland Park) also advanced to the fifth-place match in the No. 6 singles flight to play Hieu Stuart of Hollins. Sue Knouse (Washington, DC/Fort Worth CDS), whose nine match winning streak came to an end Saturday, will take on Sarah Sullivan of Hollins in the third-place match in the No. 5 singles flight. All three Sweet Briar doubles teams won their consolation matches.
On Friday, the Vixens advanced to the quarterfinals in all six singles flights, where Knouse picked up Sweet Briar’s only win. Knouse also advanced to the quarterfinals in No. 3 doubles, with partner Caroline Byrd (Virginia Beach, VA/Norfolk Academy).
Tournament play continues Sunday with finals beginning at 9 a.m.
