The No. 1 seeded Washington and Lee Generals ended Sweet Briar’s season, Saturday, defeating the Vixens 8-3 in the semifinals of the ODAC Lacrosse Championship.
Playing without leading scorer Bethany Bressan (Charlottesville,VA/St. Anne’s Belfield) for the second straight game, first-year Ellie Donahue (Richmond, VA/Trinity Episcopal) stepped up with two goals scored, giving her nine goals in tournament play. Seniors Ginger Tripp (Richmond, VA/St. Catherines) and Karah Strawley (Charlottesville, VA/Covenant) each picked up assists in their last game as Vixens. Strawley finished the season with 31 assists. Sophomore keeper Emily Fiztpatrick (Virginia Beach, VA/Norfolk Academy) stopped 16 of 32 shots taken by the Generals, upping her season total to 166.
Sweet Briar finished with a 10-6 record on the season, the best record for the Vixens since 1986.
