Virginia Beach, VA—On a windy day at the beach, Virginia Wesleyan took a 2-1 lead in doubles and held on to defeat the Sweet Briar Vixens 5-4 in an ODAC tennis match today. Senior Sue Knouse (Washington, DC/Fort Worth CDS) and first year Caroline Byrd (Virginia Beach, VA/Norfolk Academy) paired up to win in doubles, then doubled up to take their two singles matches. Knouse notched her sixth straight singles win of the season. Senior Brentz Basten (Lynchburg, VA/Jefferson Forest HS) also won her singles.
Coach Kelly Morrison said, "The wind was tough, and I was proud of the way the girls played. Sue Knouse is on fire."
The Vixens play their last home match of the season Monday against Hollins University at 4:30 p.m.
