A select few among the Sweet Briar College faculty and staff who gathered at the Florence Elston Conference Center on April 6 had something in common: Each had reached a milestone year at the school.
President Elisabeth Muhlenfeld introduced the employees who attended a luncheon to honor their years of service at the College. The event is given annually to recognize employees who have marked significant anniversaries during the fiscal year.
This year's honorees are Andrea Lynn Canada, Stacey Carter, and Laura Staman for 10 years of service; Jacqueline A. Dawson, Betty Evans, Willie Jordan, Brenda Joyce Kramar, Joseph Pendleton, Bonnie Seitz, and Reuben Smith for 20 years; Edward McDaniel for 30 years; and Shirley P. Reid and Thelma B. Jordan for 50 years.
Each receives a gift commemorating his or her anniversary.
Reid accepted her gift without her longtime colleague Thelma Jordan, who could not attend. Jordan and Reid started working at Sweet Briar in the fall of 1954. The women, both supervisors at Mary Helen Cochran Library, received framed prints of artist Edith Schermerhorn's pencil drawing of the library.
Willie Jordan and Reuben Smith also were unable to attend. In addition to the honorees, their immediate supervisors and the senior staff were invited to the luncheon.
