The home team rode to a win in Intercollegiate Horse Show Association competition at Sweet Briar College on Feb. 12, edging out Goucher College for show champions.
Jodie Weber '06 was the High Point rider, collecting the most points of the day.
With three regular-season shows to go, the SBC team picked up 39 points - good enough for third place in regional IHSA competition with a total of 219 points. Goucher College leads with 239 points, followed by the University of Mary Washington with 237. Goucher was second in the Feb. 12 competition with 37 points, and UMW placed third with 33.
The show was a qualifier for regional finals. Regional winners move on to zone competition at Hollins University in April, and the top two zone winners advance to the IHSA National Horse Show in May.
The College will be well represented in regional finals, said SBC riding director Shelby French. "We already have 10 riders qualified as individuals for the regional finals in their respective divisions. Several more are just a few points away from qualifying and should do so in the final three shows," she said.
Sweet Briar boasts one of the top riding programs in its region, which includes 11 Virginia and Maryland colleges and universities. Two additional regions, covering all of Virginia, Maryland, and North Carolina, make up the IHSA's zone 4. It is one of the association's most competitive - one that consistently produces national winners.
