Alumnae, parents, and friends from the Houston and Dallas areas gathered to celebrate Sweet Briar College and Our Campaign For Her World at regional campaign celebrations on Tuesday, April 20, 2004 at The Houston Country Club in Houston, Texas, and on Wednesday, April 21, 2004 at The Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center in Dallas, Texas. Thanks to the volunteer leadership of the Texas Campaign Event Planning Committees, both events were a resounding success.
Members of the Sweet Briar Faculty presented concurrent Alumnae Colleges to guests as part of the festivities, with Dr. Jonathan Green presenting "Music: Why We Listen," Dr. David Orvos presenting "The Beauty of the Earth - Is It Masking Real Problems?," and Dr. Barbara Perry presenting "'One Nation Under God'?: Exploring the Supreme Court's Church/State Decisions."
The focal point of each event was a special dinner, which served as an introduction to Our Campaign For Her World, outlining the details of the bold vision and strategic plan for the College.
The campaign emphasizes a mix of endowment, facility, scholarship, and program objectives. In addition, it seeks to strengthen the College's Annual Fund. Over $73 million in gifts and pledges to the campaign has been received, more than seventy percent of the campaign goal of $102 million.
The College plans to host more regional campaign events in 2004. Fall events will be held on Thursday, September 30, 2004 at the Norfolk Yacht and Country Club in Norfolk, Va. and on November 4, 2004 at the Charlotte Country Club in Charlotte, N.C.
