Alumnae, parents, and friends of Sweet Briar College from the Tidewater area came together on Thursday, September 30, 2004 at the Norfolk Yacht and Country Club in Norfolk, Va. to celebrate the College's unprecedented fund-raising effort - Our Campaign For Her World.
Members of the Sweet Briar Faculty were on hand to conduct Alumnae College seminars for guests as part of the festivities. Dr. Robert R. Alexander, Associate Professor of Environmental Studies at Sweet Briar College, presented "Innumerable Small Decisions: How Economic Incentives Affect the Environment," and Dr. Jonathan Green, Dean of the College, Vice President for Academic Affairs, and Professor of Music presented "Music: Why We Listen."
The focal point of the event was a special dinner, which served as an introduction to Our Campaign For Her World, outlining the details of the bold vision and strategic plan for the College.
In fall 2002, Sweet Briar embarked on the largest comprehensive fund-raising effort in the College's history with the public announcement of an unprecedented campaign goal of $102 million. Our Campaign For Her World emphasizes a mix of endowment, facility, and program objectives and seeks support for the College's Annual Fund. In addition to the building needs that the campaign will support, faculty and students will benefit from scholarships and funds for many academic activities. More than $80 million in gifts and pledges to the campaign have been received.
The College plans to host more regional campaign events in 2004 and 2005. The next event will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 4, 2004, at The Park Hotel in Charlotte, N.C.
