Barbara Perry, Sweet Briar College professor of government, will be featured this week on "UVA NewsMakers," a speakers' series broadcast weekly by the University of Virginia on Charlottesville Public Access channel 13 and other stations. The broadcast is a recording of Perry's Miller Center Forum presentation on her recent book, "Jacqueline Kennedy: First Lady of the New Frontier" (University Press of Kansas).
The book is a biography based on letters and other confirmed sources about Kennedy's life. Perry focuses squarely on Kennedy's White House days and her indelible imprint on the role of first lady.
At the Miller Center Forum, Perry brings to life the differences between Kennedy and previous first ladies - from Mrs. Kennedy's work in the preservation and promotion of the White House to her role in the politics of the Cold War era.
Founded in 1975, the Miller Center for Public Affairs is a non-governmental national institution for basic research on the American presidency and the executive branch of government.
Perry's presentation will be broadcast by the following outlets:
- Adelphia channel 13 in the Charlottesville area - Thursday, Feb.10 at 9 p.m., repeating Friday, Feb. 11 at 12:30 p.m.
- WBRA-TV 15, PBS in Roanoke - Sunday, Feb. 13 at 2:30 p.m.
