The Push Pin Exhibition at Sweet Briar College gives students, faculty, and staff a "barrier-free" opportunity to share their hidden artistic talents with a wider audience. The sixth-annual exhibit kicks off with a reception in Benedict Gallery on Friday, Feb. 11 from 5 to 6 p.m., and runs through March 27.
An informal and open visual arts exhibit, Push Pin welcomes everyone from the SBC community to participate. The emphasis is that all art is art, and there are infinite ways for people to express ideas through the creative process.
In keeping with the exhibition's casual name, Push Pin does not require that artwork be framed, an aspect that serves to "remove all obstacles," says Rebecca Massie-Lane, SBC director of museums and galleries. "And [that way] people of little courage have enough bravery to participate."
SBC seniors Mercy Nuesca and Meredith Richel, managing editor and editor-in-chief, respectively, of the Red Clay Literary Magazine of Sweet Briar, will judge the most outstanding Push Pin entries and feature them in the publication's 2005 edition. Prizes are awarded for first, second, and third place, as well as an honorable mention award.
