Sweet Briar College Friends of Athletics (FOA) will host a golf tournament Friday, May 6 at Poplar Grove Golf Club, 380 London Lane in Amherst. Proceeds from the tournament will benefit the Sweet Briar College athletic program.
This captain's choice tournament will feature a hole-in-one car giveaway sponsored by Amherst Motors, beat the "pro" competition, and golf carts equipped with Global Positioning Systems.
Golfers can enter the tournament as individuals or as a team of four. Registration fees are $150 for individuals and $550 for teams. Fees include golf, cart, practice balls, social, prizes, and FOA membership.
Opportunities are also available for corporate sponsorship of course holes. Eagle and Birdie Partners will receive signage on their hole's tee box and green and the company's logo will be featured on golf carts' GPS screens as golfers approach the tee. Eagle partners will also receive free entry of one team (4 players) into the tournament and advertising on the new Sweet Briar Athletics Web site.
Poplar Grove Golf Club will challenge golfers of all levels. The course, designed by Sam Snead, features 18 holes of bent grass greens, tees and fairways that encompass rolling hills, natural water sources, and mountain views.
Friends of Athletics is comprised of alumnae, parents and friends who donate and raise funds to help offset operational costs and assist in further developing Sweet Briar's seven varsity teams.
Tournament play begins May 6 with a shotgun start at 12:30 p.m. A social for all participants will conclude the tournament.
Registration forms and fees are due April 6. For more information contact Paul Shaw at (434) 381-6462 or
