Sweet Briar College will celebrate Black History Month with Gospel Fest 2005, a showcase of the area's finest black gospel choirs, on Sunday, Feb. 20, at 5:30 p.m. in the SBC Memorial Chapel. The event is free and open to the general public. In case of inclement weather, the event will be held on Feb. 27.
An annual celebration of African-American heritage through music and song, Gospel Fest features choirs from Amherst County and greater Lynchburg including Central Virginia Community Choral Ensemble, Children of God Gospel Singers, J.C. Sandidge Memorial Ensemble, Mount Olive Mass Choir, and Scott Zion Men's Chorus. As a special treat, soloists Rita Kidd and Derrick Thompson will also perform.
A reception in Randolph Parlor will follow the program. For more information, please contact SBC chaplain Guy Brewer at (434) 381-5912 or
