Convocation Ceremony to Usher in 2004-05 Academic Year
With classes set to begin on Thursday, Aug. 26, the start of the Sweet Briar College 2004-05 academic year is almost under way. In a time-honored tradition, SBC will kick off the academic year with an Opening Convocation the day before classes begin.

Convocation will be held on Wednesday, August 25 from 5 to 6 p.m. in Murchison Lane Auditorium of the Babcock Fine Arts Center, followed by a community picnic in the Student Commons Courtyard.

Opening Convocation gives the Sweet Briar community the opportunity to formally welcome Jonathan Green as new SBC dean, recognize student scholastic accomplishments through the presentation of awards, and to greet new faculty members.

Matthew Calarco, assistant professor of philosophy and recipient of the 2004 Excellence in Teaching Award, will be the principal speaker for the event.
