Charlotte Morgan, Sweet Briar College adjunct professor of English, will read from her novel, "One Day in August," at the College's Friends of the Library gathering on Friday, Oct. 22 at 3 p.m. in the Mary Helen Cochran Library Browsing Room. "August" is a fictional account of the final days of the eight unidentified victims of Hurricane Camille, which claimed hundreds of lives as it struck Nelson County in 1969. The reading is free and open to the public.
Morgan has an MFA degree in fiction from Virginia Commonwealth University and is a professor of creative writing at Hollins University. Her first novel, "One August Day," was nominated for the 1999 Virginia Fiction Award. One of her stories is included in the Pushcart Prize Collection and she has won prizes in Oregon, New York, and Virginia for her novel, "A Short Field."
Morgan resides in Lynchburg with her husband, John Morgan, SBC professor of studio art.
