To celebrate Halloween and Sweet Briar's long and colorful history, the SBC Museum will offer its annual Ghost Tours from Sunday, Oct. 24 through Sunday, Oct. 31 at 4 and 5 p.m. each day.
The walking tour of Sweet Briar's historic campus focuses on the places, nooks, and crannies where ghostly happenings have been reported over the years. Participants will learn about the body in the basement, see the music box that plays by itself, and observe the portrait whose subject's eyes follow visitors around the room.
This (mostly) lighthearted tours end with hot cider and refreshments in the Browsing Room of the Mary Cochran Library, where students and faculty have reported ghostly tea parties and the curious library benefactor's portrait hangs.
Tours are led by rival Sweet Briar tap clubs, the Chung Mungs and Tau Phis. Admission is free to SBC students, faculty, and staff, and $3 for the general public. Please call the Sweet Briar Museum at (434) 381-6246 or email
