Fayetteville, NC — Sweet Briar volleyball defeated Spelman College in five games Sunday as the team completed a tri-match at Methodist College. The Vixens took games two, four and five (26-30, 30-23, 28-30, 30-25, 15-1) from the Jaguars to pick up Sweet Briar's first win of the season. Sophomore Dori Rucker (Virginia Beach, VA/Norfolk Academy) led the offense with 10 kills. First-year Lindsay Sankoff (Charleston, WV/Capital) added nine kills to help Sweet Briar compile 28 assists in the match. On the defensive side, Katie McIntyre ’10 (Lynchburg, VA/E.C. Glass) picked up 20 digs.
Sweet Briar opened the tri-match against Methodist College, which defeated the Vixens on Friday. The Lady Monarchs came out on top again, taking the match 28-30, 19-30, and 18-30. Sankoff and McIntyre combined for 22 digs in the morning game.
Volleyball continues road play next weekend at the Roanoke Maroon Classic at Roanoke College.
