Sweet Briar field hockey came up one goal short Friday against visiting Bridgewater College, losing a tough 4-3 game. With the loss, Sweet Briar falls to 1-4 on the season. Bridgewater improves to 1-4 overall.
First-year Melissa Carron’s (Grosse Pointe, MI/Grosse Pointe North) unassisted goal late in the second half pulled Sweet Briar within one with just under two minutes to play. Her goal was the second of the half for the Vixens as they chopped away at Bridgewater’s 4-1 lead. Senior Stephanie Norris (Richmond, VA/JR Tucker) scored the first goal of the second half for the Vixens.
The Eagles lead began in the first half as they tied the game and then pulled ahead with two quick goals in the 13th and 15th minutes. They added one more tally before the break.
Justine Diamond (Cochranville, PA/Avon Grove) scored the first goal of the game, directing the ball passed Bridgewater’s goalie in the 11th minute.
Bridgewater got goals from four different Eagles, led by Christina Pybus with a goal and an assist.
Sweet Briar is home again on Sunday, taking on non-conference Villa Julie at 1 p.m.
