Visiting Villa Julie College put three on the board Sunday, as Sweet Briar field hockey fell 3-1 in non-conference action. The loss drops the Vixens overall record to 1-5, while Villa Julie improves to 3-3.
The Mustangs of Villa Julie built a 2-0 lead in the first half with goals in the 14th and 30th minutes. They added a third halfway through the second frame to seal the win.
Sweet Briar created several scoring opportunities for itself in the game, finally getting on the board in the 60th minute. First-year Molly McGonegle (Virginia Beach, VA/Floyd Kellam) scored the Vixen goal to erase Villa Julie’s shutout.
Goalies Cat Cox ’08 (Prince Frederick, MD/Calverton) and Alex DiFeliceantonio ’08 (Wilmington, NC/Amy Bradley) split time in goal. They combined to stop 11 Mustang shots in the game.
Sweet Briar is home this weekend as part of Homecoming Weekend at Sweet Briar. The Vixens take on Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) member Eastern Mennonite University Saturday at 2 p.m., followed on Sunday by the annual Alumnae Game at 2 p.m.
