For the second week in a row, the Sweet Briar doubles team of Virginia Edahl ’10 (Charlotte, NC/Providence) and Caroline Byrd ’08 (Virginia Beach, VA/Norfolk Academy) walked away with first place honors at a tournament. This time, the pair came from behind in the finals to defeat a Greensboro College doubles team at the Meredith Invitational Tennis Tournament.
Vixens Carlyle Eden ’10 (The Plains, VA/Highland School) and Brady Phillips ’10 (Mexia, TX/Mexia) also took home first place in their doubles flight. The two came from behind 7-4 to win 9-7 in the eight-game pro set.
In singles, Edahl came up short in her quest for two first-place finishes, falling in the final match to finish in second place. Byrd took third in her flight, winning her third-place match this morning. Vixens Eden and Kate Skafidas ’08 (South Berwick, ME) also took first-place in their singles flights.
Sweet Briar returns home to take on Randolph-Macon Woman’s College Oct. 9, in the team’s lone match of the fall.
