The Sweet Briar College Riding Program held open tryouts for its
Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) team this month.
Forty-seven riders vied for less than 20 positions for the team.
Jon Conyers, this year’s IHSA coach, agreed with the rest of the staff that, “this year’s tryouts were the strongest ever.”
“Sweet Briar will be competing in Zone IV, Region II this year and this region does not allow as many competitors to attend the competitions,” Conyers said. “So we really had to do some choosing in order to come up with only three to four riders per division.”
After last season’s third-place finish at the IHSA National Championships, Conyers is ready to get the season started. The first IHSA competition will be Sunday, Oct. 1 at Radford University.
