Sweet Briar soccer dropped a close 2-0 decision to visiting Randolph-Macon College Wednesday in conference soccer action. The loss moves the Vixens’ season record to 2-8, while the Yellow Jackets become 3-7 with the win.
After giving up an early goal by Kendall Kirtley in the 7th minute, the Sweet Briar defense held off numerous scoring chances by the Yellow Jackets in the first half to go into the break down 1-0. The score remained 1-0 through the first 28 minutes of the second half before Macon’s Beth Blendell found the net for the second and final time of the game in the 73rd minute.
Vixen goalie Kristen Johnson ’09 (Federal Way, WA/Decatur) stopped 13 shots in the game to bring her season total to 77.
“Kristen had a couple of difficult saves to make in the game as we played really good defensively. Unfortunately, we did not play as well on the 50/50 balls and were a bit too careless with the ball going forward,” said coach Paul Shaw.
The Vixens stay in town this weekend, traveling to Lynchburg College for a noon kickoff.
Overall: 2-8
